Bio Summit with extended conference scope: LOHAS - Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability

Consumers all over the world as well as numerous producers all the more start to adopt the values, such as sustainability, consumer responsibility or ethics. The share of responsible companies as well as individuals that invest into ecological buildings, energy saving appliances, prefer nature based products like organic food, organic cosmetics or recyclable packaging keeps on growing. The total LOHAS market is estimated to be around US $400 billion, organic food sales exceeded US $50 billion, and fair-trade product sales increase by over 30% per annum.
How sustainable are these production methods? What impact do these and other eco-labels have on sustainability? What lessons can be learned from companies who have successfully and legitimately met the sustainability challenges?
These are the major questions to be addressed at the Bio Summit conference that will take place on 8th April 2010 in the Congress centre U Hájků,Prague. Companies at the forefront of LOHAS initiatives will present their experience and discuss the various pathways to sustainability. Besides traditional topics like organic food production and buying local / regional from trustworthy sources, BioSummit will focus on business ethics, social and ecologic responsibility, sourcing fairtrade, promoting biodiversity, offsetting carbon emissions, etc. The program will cover the ways of production, sales and marketing of organic food, cosmetics, textiles and other organic/ eco/ fair product categories.
